“Nothing exceeds in smartness of service the separate skirt, and this two-piece model with bodice attched meets most of the demands of fashion. It lends itself to development in all of the materials that the style sponsors, medium size requiring 3 1/4 yards 36 inches wide, with 7/8 yard of lining for the bodice. Without the tunic, the skirt may be made from 2 1/8 yards of material.
The back and the front gore of the foundation, as well as the back and front of the tunic, are seamless. Place these sections along the lengthwise fold of material as shown in the guide, and follow the same rule in cutting the bodice. The shoulder straps may be made of ribbon or they may be cut along the selvage edge of the bodice material, especially if it silk or silk-finished.
Mark the notches carefully, and make the bodice first. Close the underarm seam as notched, leaving the left side edges free below the small “o” perforation in back. Hem the upper edge, and adjust the shoulder straps to position as notched.
Now , take the skirt and join the gores, leaving the left side edges free above the large “O” perforation in the front gore. Finish edges for a placket. Gather skirt at upper edge between the “O” perforations, leaving plain across the center-front and center-back. Sew skirt to lower edge of bidce as notched, right side seams and left side edges even. Join front and back of tunic as notched, and arrange on the skirt, stitching the upper edge along the crossline of small “o” perforations, with center-fronts, center-backs and side seams even. If desired, the lower edge of the tunic may be trimmed with braid or fringe.”
